MTRC manufactures time capsule for Morgan Hall centennial celebration

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture’s Morgan Hall was occupied in 1921 and formally dedicated on June 7, 1921. The June 7, 2021 centennial celebration included opening the 1919 time capsule and installing a new time capsule designed and manufactured by Machine Tool Research Center (MTRC) personnel.

The time capsule was prepared by CNC milling 304 stainless steel plates, robotic welding the machined plates, bead blasting to provide a uniform matte surface finish, and CNC drilling/tapping to attach the lid and gasket to the box for a water- and air-tight seal.

The team was comprised of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering graduate students (Greg Corson, Ross Zameroski, Josh Penney, Jake Dvorak, Aaron Cornelius, and Leah Jacobs) and faculty (Tony Schmitz, Bill Hamel, Bradley Jared, Brett Compton, and Chad Duty).
