Project MFG SEC Machining Competition

The event was a partnership between the DoD Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program, Project MFG, America’s Cutting Edge (ACE), the Southeastern Advanced Machine Tools Network (SEAMTN, “see mountain”), the ORNL Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, UT-Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII), the five SEC universities, MSC Industrial Supply (cutting tools), ZEISS (part measurement), and Haas (CNC milling machines).

2023 event agenda

Wednesday, November 8, 2023
3 pm Teams arrive
Teams will get acquainted with the competition site. Each team will assemble their tooling, square the vise, and familiarize themselves with the machines they have been assigned.

7:30 am Teams arrive
Teams will have orientation, review the play book, and be presented with the change order.

Competition begins for all five teams.

SEC Machining Competition will be opened to guests for open house.

12:30 pm Competition ends and judging begins
Competition is complete, teams have lunch (sponsored by Gene Haas Foundation), and judging begins.
