Gomez receives student presentation award

Michael Gomez, a May 2021 PhD graduate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering (MABE) program and current R&D staff at ORNL in the Intelligent Machine Tools Group, received the 2021 North American Manufacturing Research Conference (NAMRC) Student Research Presentation Award. In his presentation, he described his paper, “Contributions of scanning metrology uncertainty to milling force prediction”, co-authored by Timothy No, current MABE PhD student, and Dr. Tony Schmitz, MABE professor and ORNL Joint Faculty. The paper reports an uncertainty evaluation for cutting edge radius and angle values extracted from structured light scans of a variable pitch endmill.
